Being an Art Teacher, there is a lot of room to work with a variety of mediums, however these mediums are assessed in skill and technical development within specified mediums. ie. Creating a watercolour landscape painting.
Before diving into the deep end, students need to develop technical skill: Water Colour Techniques Once this skill has been practiced, students can apply it to their final assignment to show this skill development: Final Assignment
I have always wanted to try to approach a subject (i.e. art history) where students will be required to learn something, but approach it in a different way, through different types of mediums.
Art History:
1. Research two different art periods. Steps in doing further research and writing a short research paper
2. Create a work of art that reflects one of the periods with a medium of your choice. Students will choose via a choice board given by the teacher.
3. Write an artist statement explaining how your work of art reflects that of the period you chose.
Ultimately Students are creating in a variety of mediums and this process will be different for each student and each medium. However, students are still learning the curriculum outcomes.
